The fun part about high school basketball in Kentucky is that we never know what is going to happen. We always enter each season with great anticipation. Many of us hope that we might recapture those ‘golden moments’ where we could be that one special team at the end of the season at Rupp Arena. We are only one of two states that play for the one state championship. Everyone in Kentucky knows how special that is! One of the long standing goals of the Kentucky Basketball Coaches Association has been to attain the membership of 1,000 coaches. We are extremely close to reaching that goal because as of this date we have approximately 950 members. You can locate all of the coaches that are members by logging onto the KABC website. This is the perfect time to show stewardship and help our organization by contacting a coach that still isn’t a member and letting them know about all of the benefits that they could receive by signing up. Just remind them that if a coach is not a member then they are not eligible for ‘Coach of the Year’ and more importantly their players will not be eligible for the KABC All Region Teams. As president of this great association, I would like to wish everyone good luck in accomplishing the goals and aspirations that you as the coach and your team have set for a successful season. Sincerely, Ron Bevars

The KABC Board set a goal of 1,000 members for 2010 at its fall board meeting. Individual regions low on membership are being targeted for improvement. The KABC Board set new requirements for Coach and Player awards in 2008.
KABC membership is required for the Coaches and assistants for voting privileges and Coach/Player of the year awards selection.
The KABC with its numerous programs is dependent on Coaches to take part and actively support their voice of high school basketball in Kentucky. Membership is the key to our strength-we all need each other.
Together we can and will make our game better! Join you and your staff now and get involved! |

The KABC is actively involved in the development of a Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame would be created to honor coaches and players that have distinguished themselves over the 90+ years that high school basketball has been played in the Commonwealth. An organizational committee of 12 members is actively pursuing the concept. Follow its development on the KABC website.
The KABC hosted the National Association of Basketball Coaching Directors annual meeting in Louisville during July in 2008 and 2009. 27 States now have basketball associations and are members of the organization. Each year, ideas and concepts for development are shared by the various states represented.
The leadership is pursuing two new initiatives:
1. Development of a National Association of High School Basketball Coaches linked to your state membership.
2. Through the development of a national association, a greater voice on several crucial issues affecting high school basketball could be addressed 30,000+ strong. An annual conference, awards programs and a national tournament are all possibilities for our future!

KABC Annual Golf Outing 2009 The annual golf outing was played at the University of Kentucky Club Wildcat Course. This was due to a scheduling snafu with the Golf Course of the Bluegrass but it worked out well. Even though the weather was a bit rainy, we made the most of it. We had a nice day of golf, great food from Rafferty’s, some good scores and the competition was very close. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves relaxing and playing golf and then topping it off with an outstanding conference. Next year, we are looking to return to our usual place of play as they already have us scheduled for the 2010 conference weekend of Sept. 17th . Please, plan now to be there.
