PURPOSE:
- The purpose of the Coaches Court of Honor Award is to recognize and honor Kentucky High School Basketball Coaches.
AWARD:
- The Court of Honor Individual Award shall be presented to each recipient at the annual Sweet 16 Tournament.
- There shall be an Awards Reception for honorees' family and friends at the Sweet 16 Tournament each year.
- A commemorative brick shall be installed in the KHSAA courtyard in recognition of accomplishment. The Court of Honor is the circular part of the courtyard near the middle of the state.
- There shall be publicity for the honorees at the State and Local level.
CRITERIA:
- A recipient of the award must have coached high school basketball in Kentucky.
- A recipient of the award must have made a certifiable impact or contribution to the game of basketball at the high school level in Kentucky.
- A recipient of the award must be certifiable by the KHSAA under its rules and regulations.
- A recipient of the award must have displayed good moral and ethical conduct during career.
- There shall be a proportionately equal amount of men and women coaches honored based on the number of years each sport has been active (2 to 1 ratio).
- Consideration shall be given to African American coaches before integration.
- Each year there shall be 16 Boys Coach Honorees (one per Region)and 8 Girls Coach Honorees (one per every 2 Regions, i.e. 1/2, 3/4, 5/6, etc.).
SELECTION PROCESS:
- Nomination forms are available from the KABC office - P.O. Box 4035, Winchester, KY, 40392-4035 and the KABC website.
- Nominations must be received by December of each year.
- KABC Awards Committee consists of 8 coaches (5 men and 3 women), the KABC Executive Secretary, and Ex-officio members made up of Assistant Executive Secretaries.
- KABC Awards Committee will review nominations the first Sunday in February and select honorees.
